The one minor downside of this game is you pretty much only fly the F-16 (except for the last mission or two). Sure the dogfights are all right, but the plot was paper thin, there are no characters to speak of, it's entirely linear, and you can just equip the best equipment every time. I played HAWX and found it astonishingly boring. Graphics were great for their time, which means they wouldn't stand up at all in current day. You learn to hold off on those AGM-65 Mavericks and use unguided bombs and rocket pods instead. A flight sim with an actual branching story line? Having to manage a mercenary fighter squadron with a budget and fly missions aware of that budget added a new dynamic. I played it on my dad's work laptop for countless hours. "I loved the original strike commander back in the mid 90s. Chris Roberts produced both of these, I wish he still made WingCommander games and another Privateer too.(Strike 2 anyone?)" Privateer as amazing graphics for it's time and spoken dialogue via an add on(included). Privateer is a remake of another great, Space Rogue, it has similar equipment(partical beams, ECMs, meson blasters ect.) and rebuild capability(repair/replace standard stock config) only difference, in Privateer you can not only choose your parts but your ship as well. an even better game than Privateer/Strike commander combined. My friend is 53 and her MOTHER played another game made by this company on SNES: Ultima 7. To have graphics and intelligent gameplay along with ANY spoken dialogue was inportant to us old folks(35). No complaints, PC gaming was a new genre back then. ) The story and voice acting are supurb, if not a bit black-and-white. They are both the most verstile, layered and open-ended flying games I've ever played.(as far as space sims go) Strike Commander is not only a dogfight after dogfight sim, you must budget your base commnad as well. Privateer is more of a spaceship RPG while Strike Commander is a story driven Flight/fight sim like the Wingcommander series.

The games and thier accompning expansions and speech addons are there as well as full patches. They sold the Gold Combo pack then at wholesale barging bin price. This is only availilbe via third party used vendor. Us gamers need a break from the "Discontinued" braket of thinking. "I wish they sold classic games as readily as classic movies.
